Preliminary Ideas Project 4
I was extremely confused and flustered with how I was going to decide to approach this project. This is the first time that we have been introduced to a genre then its follow up assignment where several ideas did not immediately swarm into my head. I sat in class waiting for others to bounce ideas off of each other or for the numerous in class examples to spark something in my head to generate a few ideas. However, it took me much longer than I would have anticipated to even come up with anything close to what I could call my final project. My first thought was that humor would best be displayed in a video and this would probably be the easiest approach. However, I am terrible with computer editing skills and don't know the first thing about making a video and getting it online so I figured I probably should not rely on that. I do like writing for fun, though, as I mentioned in our very first blog post so I figured using an approach with writing such as a story, a comic, or a blog, could be fun and easier for me. I have a few possible ideas at this time and will weed them out to one once I start and decide what comes easiest to me. My main idea as of right now is to start a funny blog similar to those of the "Jenna Marbles" videos found on YouTube. If you don't know what these videos are or who Jenna Marbles is, I can probably summarize her work as a video blog geared toward women as both a "how to" guide as well as a public display of what is wrong in the world; mostly in our generation. For example, she has videos poking fun at "white girls in a club" and points out the naive, immature things girls do when they go out to get attention. She also has videos about "what guys think of girls" and points out all the stereotypes of men's perception of women, which are mostly disgustingly true. She has how to videos on "how to make yourself look good" and "how to avoid talking to someone you just don't want to talk to". They're hilarious videos based on things people are interested in but would never think about themselves. Her type of humor is absurdity because much of what she says or does is so ridiculous and unexpected but almost always true (which is where the real humor comes in). For my project, I would mimic what she does in her videos but in a written form and come up with ideas of my own; something people want to read and will laugh at but would never think about on their own or consider what I have to say until after its read. I will use absurdity to point out truths using ridiculous comments and thoughts.
